Semi-Independent Living Services


Services

Semi-independent living services include training and assistance to persons in managing money, preparing meals, shopping, personal appearance, hygiene, and other activities needed to maintain and improve the capacity of a person with a diagnosis of mental retardation to live in the community. The goal of SILS is to support people in ways that will enable them to achieve personally desired outcomes and lead self-directed lives.

Eligibility

To be eligible for SILS an individual must:
  • Be 18 years of age or older.
  • Be determined to have mental retardation or a related condition.
  • Be unable to function independently without semi-independent living services
How to Apply

Contact the county social services agency where the person with mental retardation or related conditions resides and ask about semi-independent living services. The county can assist applicants in the application process.
